 July 1, 2004 thru September 30, 2004

Quarterly Report Summary

 This third quarterly report for the project includes activities within the time frame of July 1, 2004 through September 30, 2004.  The project team has been diligently working to ensure this phase of the project meets all requirements of the contract.

All design work, including the roadway and bridge plans, has been submitted, reviewed and approved for construction.  The plans are being modified to add the Intra-Farm Access Tunnel.  Parcels of property acquired for grade changes are in the process of being transferred to VDOT.

Monthly CPM/Payment Schedule updates are being maintained and transmitted as per the contract.

Permit obligations such as construction monitoring are on-going and reporting is being submitted to the appropriate agencies.

The project team has increased by adding the following members: Makco, Inc. to furnish and install the temporary guardrail for Detour #11; Payne’s Parking Design, Inc. to furnish and install the permanent signs; Roadmark Corporation to furnish and install the permanent pavement markings; Strickland Construction to perform the mass excavation for the wetlands mitigation area and a portion of the mass excavation for the west bound lane in work area #1.

Construction activities in Work Area #1 (West End of project to Station 762+50) and Area #2 (Station 762+50 to 780+00 –Blue Ridge Parkway) include fill operations for Detour #11 along with tie-ins to Rte. 58 (Detours #10, 13, 14 and 20).  Fine grade activities in preparation for asphalt pavement are also occurring in order to meet traffic switch this fall.

Construction activities in Work Area #2 (Station 762+50 to 780+00 – Blue Ridge Parkway) include completion of mass excavation except for material needed to backfill northern portion of double box culvert.  Construction includes completion of surface drainage and start of fine grade activities for pavement of the EBL in this area.

Construction activities in Work Area #3 (Blue Ridge Parkway Bridge) include completion of footing concrete, pier and abutment stems, and three (3) abutment wingwalls.  Backfilling of abutments has started including placement of drainage system.

Construction activities in Work Area #4 (Station 780+00 to East End of project) include completion of mass excavation with exception of Parkway detour material.  Construction of single box culvert is ongoing along with construction for storm water management basin #4.  Installation of surface drainage has started in this area. 

Construction activities in Work Area #5 (Wetlands Compensation Site) include completion of mass grading activities and ongoing finished grading activities.

The project is currently on schedule to meet the substantial completion date of December 15, 2005. 

There were no material disputes or claims, actions or assertions against Contractor, the Project or Project Right of way, or Lien claims or stop notices file or threatened to be filed by any Person for the period.

The following attachment is a graph depicting the actual cumulative payment applications and the maximum cumulative payments allowed by contract.
