Branch Highways Inc.

Quarterly Report Summary

This sixth quarterly report for the project includes activities within the time frame of April 1, 2005 through June 30, 2005.  The project team has been diligently working to ensure this phase of the project meets all requirements of the contract.

All design work, including the roadway and bridge plans, has been submitted, reviewed and approved for construction.  The plans have been modified to add the Intra-Farm Access Tunnel.  We are in the process of acquiring final signatures on the cover sheets of the plans.  Parcels of property acquired for grade changes are in the process of being transferred to VDOT.

Monthly CPM/Payment Schedule updates are being maintained and transmitted as per the contract.

Permit obligations such as construction monitoring are on going and reporting is being submitted to the appropriate agencies.  Pre-planting groundwater hydrology monitoring for the wetlands compensation area began this period on May 3rd and runs into the next quarter ending on August 3rd.

The project team has been increased by the addition of Kirk-Neal Inc., who will furnish and install the guardrail, Payne’s Parking Design, who will furnish and install the permanent signs, and Roadmark Corporation, who will apply the permanent pavement markings and the snow-plowable pavement markers.

Construction activities on the project have resumed with a flourish this quarter as the weather has been cooperating for the construction season.  Project personnel that were temporarily laid-off for the winter months have been recalled and are working usual construction hours.

Construction activities in Work Area #1 (West End of project to Station 762+50) and Work Area #2 (Station 762+50 to 780+00 – Blue Ridge Parkway) includes work activities on the pavement sections of the westbound lanes such as box and balance, fine grade, installation of curb and gutter, cement stabilization of the subgrade, placement of cement treated aggregate and base asphalt for the mainline and shoulders along with finish grading activities for the shoulders and medians.  Permanent seeding is being applied to the shoulders and medians as grading activities are completed.   We have completed the mass excavation of the remaining material in the westbound lanes just east of the double box culvert and are finishing the surface drainage items in this area.  Construction of northern portion of Route 600 is completed, including the base asphalt, and traffic has been switched onto this section of roadway.  New driveway tie-ins are being worked on in this area.

Traffic was switched to final alignment on the Blue Ridge Parkway on June 23rd.  Activities related to the removal of the detour commenced once traffic with switched.  Final sections of the guardwall are being constructed and will be completed under traffic.

Construction activities in Work Area #4 (Station 780+00 to East End of project) includes the mass excavation of the detour earthwork at the Parkway bridge, installation of surface drainage items at the east end of the project along with construction of stormwater management basin #6.  Box and balance activities along with fine grade operations have started in this area and will continue through the next quarter.  This area along with the section across the double box culvert in Area #1/#2 are the remaining areas requiring cement stabilization, base stone and pavement installation on the project.

Construction activities in Work Area #5 (Wetlands Compensation Site) consists of the groundwater hydrology monitoring as required by the permits.  This monitoring period commenced on May 3rd and runs through August 3rd.

The project should finish ahead of the substantial completion date of December 15, 2005, weather permitting and with no unforeseen impacts.

There were no material disputes or claims, actions or assertions against Contractor, the Project or Project Right of way, or Lien claims or stop notices filed or threatened to be filed by any Person for the period.
